GET YOUR BIRTH CERTIFICATE IN CALGARY
Alberta Vital Statistics maintains and keeps record of all births that take place within Alberta. They are only authorized to issue certificates for events that take place in Alberta. If you require a birth certificate from somewhere other than Alberta you will need to contact the other jurisdiction directly.
Once 3-4 weeks have passed since the birth of your child you are able to apply for a birth certificate. Birth Certificates are not automatically sent out for children born in Alberta.
TYPES OF CERTIFICATES
Personal Information – this will show the child’s name, date of birth, place of birth and registration number.
Personal Information with Parentage – this will show the same information as the certificate with only personal information as well as the parents’ names and birth places.
Certified Copy of Registration – This is a copy of the document that was originally submitted when the child was born.
TO ORDER A BIRTH CERTIFICATE
You will need Valid Photo ID and the completed Birth Certificate Application, it can be found here.
If the certificate is sent into our office they normally arrive within 2-4 Business days. If the certificate is mailed to you directly it can take up to 3 weeks to be delivered.
STILLBIRTH CERTIFICATE:
You are also able to order stillbirth certificates and documents through our office to do so you will need:
Valid Photo ID
Completed Stillbirth Applicaiton Form, found here.
